The Happy Neurotransmitter

Serotonin helps to control mood by regulating appetite, calming anxiety and helping with sleep. The right levels of serotonin in the body keep you balanced and feeling good! If serotonin levels are lowered however, this can lead to mood disorders such as anxiety, insomnia or depression. As a result mood disorders are typically treated with drugs called Serotonin-Selective Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), which increase the levels of serotonin in the brain.

So next time you get that buzz of excitement before riding a roller coaster or going on a first-date - don't forget to thank Serotonin!
